If you want to get rid of explorer's taskbar I've just found another nifty little app that does the job.
you can download it below.

It switches the bar on and off.
SO, Either you put a shortcut in RD, or, if you want to switch the bar off from startup, just put the link in the startup folder.
et voila

I am working on a more permanent solution to the gap problem, as well as a way to "reserve" desktop space for the dock. For the programming inclined amongst you, Look up SPI_SETWORKAREA.

There are 2 ways I know of hiding the taskbar. The registry has a more permanent method, or you can manipulate the taskbar as a window and hide it. Alternatively you just delete explorer.exe :)

Hey. I've found a way around that "Gap at the bottom" problem. Simply enable the taskbar, right click it, select "Properties" and uncheck "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows". Next time when you hide the taskbar, there should be no gap. Problem solved.

Brilliant work there. 5 stars from me! :D

when i clicked on it, the windows stayed the same shape (With a gap on the side)

is there anyway to fix that?

On Vista, this doesn't hide the start button for me, so I wrote another version, full source code is included if you want to toy around with it, I would upload it, but I'm getting an error (VALIDATE_ISSHORTER), so I'll just post it here.

Instructions:
-Run it, if you don't want it back, you can quit
-If you may want the taskbar back (before rebooting/restarting explorer) leave it running
-To hide/unhide taskbar, hit CTRL+ALT+ESC and press "Pause/resume"
-CTRL+ALT+ESC and quit will close it
-If you want it back, but closed the program, simply re-run it and pause it as described above.

Since some anti-virus programs have blacklisted everything written in Autoitscript, I've included the source, you can compile it yourself with a compiler from www.autoitscript.com

Enjoy
