Check Mail Docklet v0.1
This docklet lets monitor your email accounts periodically for messages in your
inbox. This Docklet was inspired on PopWatch application by PJNaughter
(http://www.naughter.com/popwatch.html), which I initially tried to port it to
the objectdock docklet environment, but I faced too many problems, so I finally
decided to re-write it from scrath, but I adopted many ideas from it.

The docklet will monitor mutiple configured accounts, reporting the total number
of mails available at all accounts, it will let you cycle through the configured
accounts to display the number of mails available at each account. It supports
accessing your mailbox though either POP3, IMAP4 and Gmail accounts (through HTTPS)
protocols.

The docklet supports SSL/TLS access by using OpenSSL (statically linked, so no
additional downloads or setup is needed).

The docklet let you configue a default mail application to be launched when
clicking on the docklet icon, you may also configure an application per each
account, or let it use the default application. The application may be automatically
launched when mails are detected to be available at your mailbox.

You may also configure a default audio file (windows wave format - .wav) to be
played upon mails are available at your mailbox. You may also configure an audio
file on a per account basis.

There are multiple options to tune the docklet display. You may configure the
background, animation, attention & context menu icons used by the docklet. You may
also enable/disable animation used while checking your mail accounts. You can also
configure the docklet font, color & rotation shown for the mail count.

WHHHYYYY???!!?!! It doesn't work. I extracted the file to "docklets" under "Rocketdock" under "Program Files". When I go to add it to the dock it doesn't show under the right clicked "add item" selection!

would be better if it just looked at new messages and not all, since i never delete all my messages

's AvatarRemork (November 19, 2010):

Disappointment : I just noticed that your docklet got a problem, it does not update the "new mail icon" after checking.

We have to chose "Check Mail Docklet Settings" and click OK to make it work.

Bad bad bad...

's AvatarRemork (November 17, 2010):

Of course the steps I talked about have to be improved and verified ;). It's just an idea of what can be done. The "refresh" function should be in fact a "reset" function. I hope you understood me.

's AvatarRemork (November 17, 2010):

Can you make your docklet count only the new mails, and not all the mails?

1 - first a "$last" variable could be set to 0
2 - then, when checking, it could count the total of mails and set a "$current" variable to this total
3 - it calculates the difference between the two : $current - $total
4 - it displays the result in the "new mail" red icon
5 - we click on a "refresh" context-menu entry OR click on the icon to launch our mail-program
6 - it set $last=$current
7 - and the "nex mail" red icon disappears

And for the next checking you restart to the step n°2...

Hi - love the docklet - very useful. Not sure if I've misunderstood the instructions, but is it possible to configure it so that clicking on the icon takes you to your Yahoo mail page. At present I've got a separate icon for that, but being able to combine the function would be fantastic.

's AvatarLyc@n (September 1, 2010):

This gadget is very convenient, and more, the icon just mac!

hi Fedro!!! i would like to contact you for some update advice on your incredible check mail docklet
i know anything about c++ or .dll files but i was wondering if it's possible to add some string to the docklet code to make it display only unread messages (yes. a read the read-me file!!!).

ex.
number of messages on server on first check: 10

number of messages on server on second check: 12

display number of new messages is 12-10=2

i know that's stupid but can it work????????

's Avatardoodies (January 8, 2010):

Sorry to double post

@guidoferreyra - Did you enable full permissions for Program Files\Rocketdock? Right click the Rocketdock directory and edit the permissions so you have full access. Also, I think you might need "Store settings in portable INI" checked... I'm not sure if that matters though.

Nice one. I use it for Gmail. Although, to open in Chrome as a web app, I had to enter the path and parameters both in the default field and within the account's field. Otherwise I click it and nothing happens. It seems like it has to be in both. Besides that it works great!

To open gmail as a web app in Chrome it's the same thing I did for one of the calendar docklets I commented on.

Default program to run: C:\Users\[you]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

Parameters:
--app=http://mail.google.com/mail

(I just created a web application shortcut through Chrome, then checked the properties of the shortcut I created to get the path and paramaters. If you use the Prism add-on in Firefox, it should be a similar process)

's Avatarguidoferreyra (August 19, 2009):

hey, i have few problems the animation and the graphic report of new email doesnt works but sound yes.
But the mayor problem is that every time i reset the pc the docklet needs to be configured again.
Please Help!
